Havana, Jun 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Wednesday thanked Russia’s State Duma (Lower House) for condemning the blockade imposed by the US on Cuba for almost six decades.
On his official Twitter account, the foreign minister expressed his gratitude to lawmakers for their firm condemnation of Washington’s policy of coercive measures against Cuba.
‘We appreciate the permanent solidarity of the Russian people and authorities,’ he tweeted.
On Tuesday, Moscow called on the United Nations to address the need to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade and reaffirmed its condemnation of the White House’s restrictive unilateral policies.
The statement denounced that US regulations affect the economic and social development of Cuba and violate Cuban citizens’ rights and interests.
The damage accumulated in 60 years of blockade amounts to 144.413 billion dollars, and between April 2019 and March 2020, it caused losses worth 5.570 billion dollars, a record figure for a year.
The blockade was tightened under the Trump administration (2017-2021), with more than 240 coercive measures, which remain in force under the current Biden administration.
