Cuba Thanks Russia for Support against US Blockade on FAR Anniversary

Moscow, Dic 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuba thanked Russia on Monday for its support to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States, on a new anniversary of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) that was celebrated here.

In an event, also dedicated to the 62nd anniversary of the Landing of the Granma yacht, the Cuban military attache in Russia, Guillermo Verdecia Depedro, highlighted the dignified and courageous stance against the blockade taken by Russia at the United Nations.

The positive relations between the FAR and the Russian Armed Forces have a practical expression in the exchange of delegations, and the completion of training courses for officers and cadets, he said.

In addition, they also include military collaboration projects in the field of modernization, teaching and research, he said at a ceremony, also attended by Cubam Ambassador Gerardo Peñalver.

The recent visits by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez FAR Minister Leopoldo Cintra Frias expressed the genuine and historic ties that have always existed between our peoples, he said.

According to the thinking of the Commander in Chief and historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the FAR today has military institutions of a high scientific-technical level, said Verdecia Depedro.

In addition, these forces are an important component of the conception of the People’s War, he told diplomats, officials from the Russian Ministry of Defense and veterans, among others.

For his part, the head of the Second Department of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of Russia, Colonel Andrei Ujanov, noted that December 2, 1956, is well known to many generations of Soviets and Russians.

They, together with the Cuban comrades, contributed their efforts to establish the FAR and many achievements were made in that regard, he said.

In addition, the landing of the Granma yacht in eastern Cuba, led by Fidel Castro, became a symbol that holds a major place in the history of the Cuban people, he pointed out.

Relations between Cuba and the Soviet Union and then Russia have been examples of justice, brotherhood and selfless support for decades. I hope that in today’s Russia that practice will continue, Ujanov underlined.
