Cuba Rejects Double Standards of Some Arms Producing Nations

Geneva, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Rodolfo Benitez, head of the Cuban delegation to the Fifth Review Conference of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons has released a statement, which says that Cuba rejects the double standard of some weapon-producing countries, who produce weapons that have devastating effects, but at the same time try to limit the purchase of less sophisticated weapons for self-defense purposes.

The statement released today by the Cuban embassy in Geneva, adds that as a result there is a ‘huge imbalance in favor of industrialized countries in the production, possession and trade of these weapons’ which ‘infringes on international peace and security.’

Benitez also denounced the paradox of ensuring that there are not enough resources for development in the world, while at the same time manufacturing and using increasingly sophisticated and deadly conventional weapons.

According to the diplomat, the highest priority should be in controlling and limiting the most sophisticated and destructive conventional weapons, causing the most innocent victims in modern wars.
