Cuba Ready to Contribute in Preparation for WTO Ministerial Event

Geneva, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has showed in Geneva its willingness to contribute to preparing the 11th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to be held in Buenos Aires, diplomatic sources said today.
Speaking at the meeting of WTO chiefs of delegations, Havana’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Pedro Luis Pedroso, expressed his intention to continue working actively and constructively towards the meeting scheduled for late 2017 in the Argentinean capital.

According to the diplomatic representative, Cuba is involved in this process under the premises of defending multilateralism, preserving the development dimension in all areas of work, the principles of transparency and inclusiveness, and the decision-making by consensus.

Pedroso stated that in order to move towards the Buenos Aires meeting, the search of tangible results on the pending issues of the Doha Round has been crucial.

‘For Cuba, the Doha mandate remains in force,’ he said, and added that ‘we are firmly committed to the need to prioritize the pending issues of this Program of Work, many of which are falling behind.’
