Lima, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuba put today here at disposal of Latin America the experience that has it allowed to comply with the Education for All (EFA) world goals, particularly the successful literacy method “Yo, Si Puedo” (Yes, I Can).
The offer was done by the island’s Education Minister Ana Elsa Velasquez, during a speech at the regional Meeting of Education Ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean “Education for Everyone in Latin America and the Caribbean: Results and Challenges Post 2015”
“Cuba reiterates its offer to apply the literacy method “Yo, Si Puedo”, teaching to read and write 8.4 million people in 29 countries, the Cuban representative stated.
The Cuban minister recalled the importance of the First Education Ministers’ Meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) that agreed to extend the best experiences guaranteeing total and partial eradication of illiteracy in several countries of the region.
Velazquez also expressed her country’s willingness to share experiences to comply with the EFA goals.
“Cuba will be one of the first countries to reach 2015 with six EFA goals performed, leading the Latin American and Caribbean region. Since 1999, Cuba has practically reached all goals with a development index of 0.978,” Velazquez said.
