Cuba Hosts International Meeting on Forensic Science Techniques

Havana, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) The Ninth International Meeting on Forensic Science Techniques, Tecnicrim 2015, opens today at the Conference Center in this capital, to foster professional exchange and update the scientific results in these specialty.

The event, to be run until Friday, September 25, is a new opportunity to strengthen the experts, work, Colonel, Osmany Carbonell, head of the Central Forensic Laboratory of the Cuban Ministry of Interior (MININT), said.

The program of the event includes the presentation of papers, posters, exhibition of specialized media, and delegations from more than 18 countries are expected to participate, among them, Venezuela, Ecuador, Argentina, Spain, and China, he noted.

Cuba is internationally recognized for its significant contribution to the implementation of techniques and procedures by expert investigation, as of an automated digital identification system that includes registration of about 6,000 handprints of people over 18 years old, thanks to the operativity of the identity card.

The laboratory of the Forensic Science Directorate, located in Havana, has currently performed several studies that rely on techniques and methods of the work of 18 disciplines, as well as auxiliary sciences and forensic laboratories.

The Caribbean island has maintained relations of mutual cooperation related to the teaching of forensic science in several similar entities, among them those in Nicaragua, Angola, and Mozambique.
