Cuba Hosts Cardiology Congress Sessions

Havana, Jun 2.- Many courses are in session today in this capital prior to the Eighth Cuban Congress on Cardiology, opening tomorrow at the capital’s Conference Center with experts from some 20 nations attending.”Cardiovascular Diseases: Our Challenges in the 21st Century,” is the theme for the forum, in which issues such as prevention, diagnostic imaging with cutting-edge techniques, medical, interventional, surgical and rehabilitation treatments, are part of the agenda.

Running parallel to this congress is the Global Forum on Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation in Clinical Practice, and the 21st International Symposium and Ninth National Workshop on Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Eduardo Rivas, president of the Cuban Cardiology Society and member of the organizing committee, stated that the objective of the meeting is to update specialized knowledge, and to show the results of cardiology research in the area.

At the conference website, the specialist also said he seeks to improve the overall care of patients in Latin America and worldwide, suffering from many kinds of disorders of the heart and blood vessels.

Courses on pediatric cardiology, diabetes and heart disease, arrhythmias, rehabilitation and prevention, cardiovascular surgery, and updates on hypertension and cardiovascular risk, will be held prior to the opening.

A scientific commercial exhibition is part of the conference, at the Havana’s Conference Center’s central exhibition space, where companies, laboratories, universities, hospitals, and specialized firms will be able to exhibit and market their equipment, products, technologies, medicines, and other related materials.
