Cuba Doubles its Team to World Junior Athletics Championships

Havana, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban delegation to the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held from July 22 to 27 in the U.S. city of Eugene, Oregon will be expanded to almost double its members, announced the National Athletics Commission. According to the source, Zuriáman Echevarría and Leandro Zamora, joined the 10 initial members of the group in the 400m hurdles, José Luis Despaigne (long jump) and Dianelis Duttil (high jump).

Are also included sprinters Reynier Mena and Yaniel Carrero, who made incursion into the 100 and 200m dash, as well as Roger Valentín Iribarne in 110m hurdles.

World youth triple jump champion Lazaro Martinez, heads the list of the Caribbean delegation to the event.

Others who were announced from the beginning are Yorgelis Rodríguez (heptathlon), Sahily Diago (800 m), Liadagmis Povea (triple jump), Santiago Ford (decathlon) and Saily Viart (shot put).

Completing the list are Andy Díaz (triple jump), Arialis Gandulla (200 m), José Gaspar (400 m hurdles) and Gilda Casanova (400 m).

In the last edition of these events, Barcelona-2012, the Cuban result was of three titles and a bronze medal.
