Geneva, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has denounced at UN headquarters in Geneva the full validity of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean nation during the 64th regular session of the Trade and Development Board.
According to a statement released today, the Havana mission at UN office in this Swiss city took an active participation in that meeting, which is part of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The island’s representation denounced during the meeting that the U.S. blockade is still being implemented and it seriously affects policies and development priorities.
That economic siege has been active for more than 50 years, and remains in force despite the almost unanimous international rejection voiced every year at UN.
Cuba spoke on behalf of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC), occasion in which it expressed its support for the activities undertaken by UNCTAD in favor of the African development.
According to the statement, another important issue was the presentation of the report on UNCTAD assistance to the Palestinian people.
‘Cuba reiterated its strong support for this just cause and the need for the cessation of the Israeli occupation as a fundamental condition for that people to achieve harmonious and sustainable development,’ the text said.
The Trade and Development Board is UNCTAD’s most important annual meeting, when the ministerial conferences taking place every four years, are not held.
