Cuba demonstrates advances in health care and pharmaceutical industry

Beijing, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuba demonstrated in an international event in China its advances in medical care, service provision and preparation of effective products for the biopharmaceutical industry, as per diplomatic sources reports.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Shanghai, Nestor Torres, represented Cuba at the first Global Exhibition and trade fair on prevention and epidemiological control materials, which was attended by delegates from more than 20 countries.

In his speech he emphasized that the strengths in health have allowed Cuba to guarantee health coverage to its population and respond to requests to send highly qualified personnel to other nations of the world.

Torres noted that Cuba’s high development in its biopharmaceutical industry has helped face the pandemic with progressive success, since it applied domestic products with good results.

He cited the use of monoclonal antibodies, the CIGB 258 peptide, Surfacen, and the antiviral interferon alfa 2B, as an example of this, the latter of which was one of the used in China for treatment against Covid-19.

According to the diplomat, Cuba supports international efforts against health adversity and is committed to sharing its experiences in the face of a disease that does not recognize borders or races.

Among other aspects, Torres stated that Cuba treasures all these achievements despite suffering the increasingly negative effects of the blockade imposed by the United States.

The event, taking place in Shanghai, mainly included Chinese companies engaged in the manufacture and marketing of materials such as masks, gloves, eyeglasses, thermometers, and protective suits.
