Cuba condemns US violations as UN host country

United Nations, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban mission members to the UN on Tuesday condemned the US violations as UN host country which hinder their daily work, as stated by Yuri Gala, Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN.

According to the Cuban ambassador, the United States selectively and arbitrarily applies the Venue Agreement, and abuses such a condition in clear violation of the principle of sovereign equality, endorsed in the Charter of the United Nations.

The UN cannot be complicit in this repeated breach, to the detriment of the Charter, the Venue Agreement, the 1975 Convention on Privileges and Immunities and other international instruments, Gala stated.

Cuban diplomats accredited to the United Nations and their families have been arbitrarily imposed a policy of movement restrictions, which constitutes an obstacle to proper performance of their duties, he stressed.

The Cuban ambassador, on the other hand, strongly rejected the discriminatory treatment in granting visas in relation to some UN Member States.

Recently, the UN Correspondents Association (UNCA) also ruled on an issue related to the delay by the United States in issuing visas to two Cuban correspondents accredited to the UN.

On repeated times, nations such as Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and others have condemned that the United States usually fails to comply with its obligations as host country of the multilateral organization.
