Washington, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba celebrates obtaining two medals at the Wrestling World Championship that hosts Las Vegas, in the United States, with the gold medal of Ismael Borrero and the silver medal of Mijaín López in the Greco-Roman style.
Borrero, from the 59 kgs division, reached the highest recognition of his sporting career when he obtained this scepter after defeating in the final the Azeri Rovshan Bayramov.
In his first match, he beat 4-2 the host Spenser Mango, and then won Deniz Menekse German 5-4, 8-0 against the Belarusian Soslan Daurov, 8-6 in front of the South Korean Seunghak Kim, and finally 9-1 against Kazakh Almat Kebispayev. Meanwhile López, of 130 kilograms division, fell in the match for the gold medal 0-1 against the Turkish Riza Kayaalp, the only one who could defeat him in a competition of this kind in the last decade.
Before that, the double Olympic champion defeated Russian Bilyal Makhov 2-1, 3-0 against the Lithuanian Mindaugas Mizgaitis, beat Estonian Heiki Nabi 2-0, and finally American Robert Smith 8-0 in the semifinals.
Both Cubans and guaranteed their presence in the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro-2016, something that has not been able to do any other Latin American wrestler.
On Wednesday, match for medals in the categories of 85 kilograms of Greek style will take place, as well as those in the 48, 53 and 69 for women.
