HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (acn) Cuba defeated Chile and achieved its second win in the 3rd U-18 Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup, based in the Sports City Coliseum in Havana, where today, day of closing the preliminary stage, it will face Costa Rica. This is Cuba’s second win as it previously beat Puerto Rico in its debut.
The local squad won 3-0 (25-13, 25-17 and 25-13) over the South Americans with offensive highlights by Kitania Medina and Diaris Perez, both with 14 points, followed by Heidy Casanova (11), while Josefa Martí (7) was Chile’s best scorer.
In yesterday other match in group B, Puerto Rico won 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-14) over Costa Rica, while in Poole A Argentina and the Dominican Republic beat 3-0 Mexico (25-11, 25-18, 25-18) and Peru (25-15, 25-9, 25-14), respectively.
The Argentinian , Dominican, Mexican and Peruvian already have secure their spots in the finals, so that the other ticket in dispute will be for the team finishing first in group B.
Cuba leads this group with two wins and no losses, followed by Chile (1-1), Puerto Rico (1-1) and Costa Rica (0-2), while the Dominican Republic (2-0) leads poole A, escorted by Argentina (1-1), Peru (1-1) and Mexico (0-2).
Today’s program includes the matches Chile-Puerto Rico, Mexico-Peru and Dominican Republic-Argentina.
