Cuba and China hold dialogue on Asian language teaching

Havana, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban and Chinese Ministries of Education held a dialogue on teacher training and the teaching of the Asian language in Cuba,the Cuban Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velazquez informed today.

In 2020, the ministries of both countries signed in Havana a cooperation agreement to introduce Chinese as an optional second language in Cuba.

Since March 7, 130 students of the Fructuoso Rodriguez high school in Havana, began to receive classes in this subject, in compliance with the exchange agreement.

Also as part of the framework cooperation agreement, Cuba received 120 books, including workbooks, manuals, dictionaries and some traditional toys, that will facilitate the learning of adolescents.

The Cuban Ministry of Education made it clear that the teaching of the new language will be a gradual process, and Chinese will not be part of the school curriculum (it is optional).

Havana and Beijing have an agreement for cooperation in several levels of education in Cuba, such as early childhood, special education and vocational-technical education, including Chinese language classes, scholarships and exchange of information on these topics.
