Camaguey Develops Actions for Int’l Cultural Diversity Day

Camaguey, Cuba, May 18 – On occasion of the World Day for Cultural Diversity, the Fourth Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development will be held here from May 21-25, said its organizing committee.

Researcher Daimi Ruiz told Prensa Latina that the World Day for Cultural Diversity will be celebrated on May 21, while the World Day for Africa will be on May 25, both dates declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).

Ruiz stated that among the objectives of the day are the recognition and visualization of diverse cultural practices in Cuban culture and this city, some 570 kilometers east of Havana.

The expert said that this edition will be dedicated to celebrating the 500th anniversary of the meeting of cultures in this city, founded on February 2, 1514, and the 167th anniversary of the Chinese presence in the former Villa of Santa María del Puerto del Principe.

Parallel to this event will be a first exhibition, in this region which Cuba’s national poet Nicolas Guillen said was the part of Cuba with “shepherds and sombreros,” of Chinese cinema, on May 21-23, at the Casablanca film complex. (Prensa Latina).
