By Waldo Mendiluza New York, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) Broad sectors of the U.S. society are along with the world in rejecting the blockade Washington has imposed on Cuba for more than 50 years, activist Ike Nahem said here today.
During an interview with Prensa Latina, the coordinator of the solidarity movement with Cuba in New York said the economic, commercial and financial siege against the island will be again condemned on November 1, during the vote at the UN General Assembly of a new draft resolution that demands its end.
That day, we will have demonstrations of solidarity with Cuba and demand the lifting of the blockade in many parts of the world, and at least a dozen U.S. and Canadian cities will welcome them, he said.
According to Nahem, the Big Apple is expected to witness the greatest examples of support in the Union to the Cuban people and their fight against the unjust measure, applied and intensified by the last 11 White House administrations.
The idea is to mobilize hundreds of people to come to the vote at the General Assembly, then we will stage a rally in front of the United Nations and later we will march with many colors and joy until the Cuban Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the pacifist said.
Nahem insisted that there is a significant opposition to the blockade in the northern nation.
We want to prove that, as in the rest of the world, these sanctions are not welcome in the United States, and the only ones isolated are President, Donald Trump, and Washington, he warned.
The Assembly will vote on November 1for a 26th consecutive year since 1992 a draft resolution on the need to lift the economic, commercial and financial siege, an initiative that has always received overwhelming support, to the point of having in 2016 the support of 191 of the 193 UN member countries, while the United States and Israel abstained.
