Lula Meets with Cuban Business PersonsHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 27 (acn) The former President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, attended on Wednesday a meeting with Cuban business persons and authorities at this capital’s Hotel Nacional de Cuba.

As announced by Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment, Lula would refer to his experiences and to those of his country around the attraction of foreign investment towards the Caribbean island, taking the increasing bilateral economic relations as a starting point.

Also on Wednesday, the distinguished visitor traveled to Ciego de Avila province with the purpose of strengthening agricultural cooperation with Cuba.

Accompanied by Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, member of the Politburo of the Cuban Communist Party and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, and by other leaders, Lula toured areas of the Cubasoy agricultural enterprise, created in 2008 with Brazilian support and found in the municipality of Venezuela.

On Tuesday, with Army General Raul Castro, President of the councils of State and Ministers, Lula visited the recently inaugurated Terminal of Containers of Mariel, a work supported by the contribution of a credit given by Brazil.

In statements to the national press, Lula stated that this Special Zone –opened to investment- represents for the island the possibility of an industrial revolution, of attracting companies with a view to the development of high tech products and of using the Port of Mariel as a reference for Latin America and the Caribbean.
