Minsk, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) Belarus and Cuba signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of communications, Belarusian diplomatic sources announced on Thursday.

The document was penned by the minister of Communications and Informatization of Belarus, Konstantin Shuljan, and Cuban Ambassador in Minsk Juan Valdes Figueroa, on behalf of the Cuban Ministry of Communications.

Both officials exchanged viewpoints on the development of collaboration in this field, and noted that the initiative has as a background the fruitful results of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s visit to Belarus in October 2019, and the agreements reached at talks with his counterpart, Alexandr Lukashenko.

According to the accord, the parties will encourage the promotion of cooperation and exchanges among companies, research and education centers, state-owned agencies and other organizations from the two countries in the field of communications.

The Memorandum covers communications and postal service, telecommunications and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

It provides for the exchange of information, expertise and ideas on development and regulatory policies; support for the development of joint projects between companies in both countries; the strengthening of collaboration in the areas of research and innovation; and the organization of joint training.
