“Enough with the threats. We must avoid imposition and achieve multilateral forums in harmony,” Arreaza said, referring to attempts by the United States to ban Venezuela from the upcoming Summit of the Americas in Lima, Peru.
March 16 (teleSUR) Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza presided Friday over the installation of the XXIII Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) in New Sparta State.
During the opening ceremony, Arreazatold delegates that cooperation and dialogue unite the peoples of the Caribbean with Venezuela. He also said it is vital they host discussions on the impacts of climate change in the region and plan the financing of projects that mitigate its impact.
“President @NicolasMaduro expresses Venezuela’s pride for hosting this great meeting for cooperation and dialogue that unites the peoples of the Caribbean,” Arreaza posted on Twitter.
Arreaza later announced that a cooperation agreement on the prevention of natural disasters will be signed, and he praised the ACS as “one of the most stable associations in all integration processes that exist in the world.”
The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA) and Petrocaribe are mechanisms for Latin American integration, through which the region has reached a higher level of development and wellbeing, Arreaza said.
He also highlighted efforts by the Venezuelan government to “unite all the peoples of the Caribbean,” and called on the United States to cease hostilities.

June Soomer, secretary general of the ACS, said the organization’s goal is to help member states deal with natural disasters and to continue working on a shared agenda for development.
