Andorra defends assistance by Cuban doctors from US pressure

Havana, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Andorra Maria Ubach defended the sovereignty of her country, infected with the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, under US pressure to prevent Cuba’s medical collaboration.

The arrival on Tuesday of 39 Cuban health professionals put the Andorran diplomacy on alert, after some warnings by US President Donald Trump, who intends to prevent the presence of Cuban health specialists in nations that urgently need this assistance.

The foreign minister explained that, facing the impossibility of receiving assistance from health workers of Spain and France and the critical situation those countries are experiencing, she opted for Cuba’s help, whose specialists have a long tradition of medical services abroad, Cubadebate website informed.

In just one week, Andorra asked Cuba for help and become the second European state -after Italy- to receive health cooperation, which has been questioned by the United States, the website points out.

About 593 Cuban health professionals, organized into some 14 brigades, are working to curb the coronavirus pandemic in 12 nations, despite the US smear campaign to reject cooperation of Cuban health professionals.
