Havana, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) U.S. activists described here today as a great honor their participation in ceremonies to pay tribute in Cuba to National Hero José Martí on his 165th birthday yesterday.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Elisabeth Stevens expressed gratitude for the invitation to travel to Cuba, where she participated in the March of the Torches on Saturday night and the unveiling at a Havana square on Sunday of a replica of the equestrian statue of Jose Marti that exists in New York’s Central Park.
We greatly enjoyed the march of thousands of young people and the unveiling of the replica of the statue, the latter is the result of the efforts by many people in Cuba and the United States, the president of the Board of Directors at Coalition of Concerned Medical Professionals (CCMP) said.
The CCMP works in the Big Apple to help low-income New Yorkers by providing them with medical care.
María Mercedes Perales, director of the National Coalition of Concerned Legal Professionals, was grateful for the possibility of being present in these historic events.
This is a message of unity among all human beings, said the New York resident, who highlighted the Cubans’ hospitality and joy.
Stevens and Perales return today to the Big Apple, after their participation here, along with several U.S. citizens in activities to celebrate the birthday of the most universal of all Cubans.
