HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 3 (acn) Solidarity activist Alicia Jrapko and U.S. photographer Bill Hackwell were described as exceptional friends while receiving on Thursday the Friendship Medal given by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.
Alicia and Bill received the medal “for their arduous, tireless and tenacious contribution to the struggle for the freedom of the Five,” expressed Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), while reading the arguments of Agreement 5224 of the Council of State during the ceremony to hand over the medal, the Cubadebate Web site reported on Thursday.
During the ceremony at the ICAP, attended by relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists, messages sent by Hernandez, Labañino and Guerrero were read, which showed the courage of these men and their loyalty and love towards Cuba, their lives devoted to a noble cause.
Thousands of people who express their solidarity embrace this cause, among them Nobel Prize winners, artists, parliamentarians, trade union leaders and religious persons, who ask U.S. president Barack Obama to find a response to this case.
