Santiago, Chile, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) The Municipal Theater in La Serena city launched the 320-page book ” El Abrazo de dos Pueblos Hermanos: Chile y Cuba” (The Embrace of Two Brotherly Peoples: Chile and Cuba) by writer and city councilman Luis Aguilera.
Published by LOM publisher, the work deals with the relationship between the two countries since a group of Chileans decided to participate in the struggles for Cuba’s independence from Spanish colonialism.
The volume contributed to the history of our peoples, David Hevia, national president of the Writers’ Society of Chile (SECH), said during the book launching on Thursday evening.
Hevia referred to the work done by Aguilera, of whom, he said, we have always seen working for culture, solidarity, and unity of our peoples from all spaces and arts.
The book contains stories such as that of Chilean Pedro Vargas Sotomayor, who rose to the post of brigadier on the battlefield in Cuba, he said.
Chile was one of the countries that contributed the most money to Cuba’s independence, Hevia stated, citing the case of Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, who went to the United States to seek economic resources for Cuba.
Rosario Rodriguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in Chile; La Serena Mayor Roberto Jacob Jure; and councilors, writers, and members of the Committees of Solidarity with Cuba Zonal Norte attended the launching of the book.
