Havana, Mar 29 (Prensa Latina) The XXI International Meeting of Ballet Academies will be opened today in Havana, a unique event of its kind in the world. The National Ballet School of Cuba Fernando Alonso will be the main venue for this 2015-edition of the event with participants from Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela, France, Panama, Argentina, Costa Rica, United States, Bolivia, Italy, Ecuador and El Salvador.
According to the general director of the event Ramona de Saá, participants will be taught lessons on repertoire, choreographic composition, character dances and classical duo, among other subjects.
This International Ballet Meeting will also inclue workshops of complementary subjects for any artistic profession such as acting, makeup, choreography, folklore, fitness, nutrition, Spanish dancing and prophylaxis at early stages in ballet practice.
The event will be dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of Fernando Alonso, added the general director, formed as a dancer and appointed by the teacher himself for this position.
As usual in this ballet-teaching event, students from different nations will stage seven artistic galas at the National Theater.
Each performance will begin with a tribute to a personality of arts education in Cuba, including the National Schools of Circus, Music, Theater, Dance and Fine Arts.
The director will chair the XIII International Ballet Youth Contest and the II International Ballet Children Contest from 7 to 11 April, which will have as venues the National Theater and America Theater, respectively.
The jury will be composed of teachers and critics from Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, and United States. General director Ramona de Sáa and lead dancer of National Ballet Viengsay Valdes will be representing Cuba.
