Xi Jinping Congratulates Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel

Beijing, April 19(Prensa Latina) Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Miguel Diaz Canel for his election as the president of Cuba, promissed to further strengthen friendship between the two people and whished to deepen friendly relations with the new leadership of the Caribbean island.

In his message, the Chinese leader considered two nations as comrades, good friends and partners who have real commitment and share a common destiny.

Xi remarked the fraternity cultivated by Beijing and Havana over all these years which helped to overcome huge challenges and it was a driving force of bilateral and solid relations.

‘In the contemporary world where the current international and regional circumstances suffer complex and deep changes, China and Cuba are engaged in a trip to progress’.

In addition, the Chinese President committed to work together with Diaz Canel to deep the ties, enhance cooperation and seize future achievements to contribute to honoring bilateral relations even more. Xi sent a separated message to the general secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Raul Castro Ruz, in which he also committed to keeping close communication with him to take bilateral ties to a higher level.

For his part, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang congratulated the new Cuban president and expressed his wishes to boost relationships.

On Thursday, Díaz-Canel took office as the president of the Councils of State and of Ministers of Cuba for a five-year term before the Legislature of the People’s Power National Assembly (Parliament).

More than 600 members of the Cuban Parliament elected him on Wednesday by a majority of votes.

Diaz-Canel’s first speech as the Cuban leader emphasized that his main goal will be to continue the Revolution launched on January 1,1959, and the legacy of its historic leader Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and the ideas of his predecessor, Raul Castro.

The new Cuban leader also called for the unity of the Cuban people to continue to build a successful and sustainable socialism in the Caribbean island.
