Venezuela to Present Cuba Report 2017 on US Blockade

Caracas, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Rogelio Polanco, will present today the report of Cuba on the illegal blockade that has been maintained and intensified by the United States against the island for more than five decades.

In the meeting, to which the media outlets, diplomats, Venezuelan government officials and solidarity movements are also summoned, Polanco will present the impact of the siege of Washington and its intensification under the current administration headed by Donald Trump.

It will also expose the economic and human effects of such a punitive measure implemented by the US authorities to Cuba in 1962, and which remains unchanged.

The economic, commercial and financial siege against the Greater Antilles for almost six decades caused losses to the Cuban people of more than 822 billion dollars.

According to authorized sources, from April 2016 to March 2017, these damages amounted to over four billion dollars.

The US regulation is considered an act of genocide under the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes of Genocide, of 1948.

It is a flagrant violation of international law because of its impact, including, among others, extraterritorial measures aimed at stifling the island’s economy and beating the people with hunger.

The Cuban complaint in Venezuela comes a few days after the UN General Assembly discusses the issue and speaks about a resolution calling for an end to the US economic, financial and commercial blockade.
