US unilateralism attacks human rights, warns Cuba

Geneva, Switzerland, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) The unilateralism of the United States undermines the promotion and protection of human rights on the planet, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said here today.

Intervening in the high-level segment of the 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council, he warned that Washington’s hostile stance is contrary to the multilateralism that the world needs.

According to Rodriguez, the United States is responsible for unconventional wars and violations of International Law that systematically transgress the right to peace and self-determination of the peoples.

It also imposes a neo-liberalism that attacks economic, social and cultural rights and prevents the realization of the right to development, he added at the Geneva Palace of Nations.

The Cuban Foreign Minister also denounced the lack of will of the White House in the face of climate change, which poses an existential challenge to the international community, he said.

Regarding the issue of human rights, he expressed in the Council that Washington appeals to political manipulation and double standards, impeding cooperation on such a sensitive issue.

Rodriguez illustrated American aggression with his crusades to crush Venezuela and destabilize Nicaragua, before which he urged not to remain indifferent.

In the case of Cuba, Rodriguez drew attention to the resurgence by the current US administration of the economic, commercial and financial blockade and its extraterritorial component represented by the Helms-Burton law.

The Cuban minister denounced that under the declared argument of rendering Cubans hungry and desperate, the US government is able to resort to unconventional measures, such as its recent actions to prevent the supply of fuel.

That way it damages every area of society, including health, food, education and transportation, he said.
