Havana, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) The economic, commercial and financial US blockade against Cuba pursues and threatens US and third-country entities, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said today.
On Twitter, Bruno Rodriguez stated that Washington implemented (from April 2019 to March 2020) 12 sanctions imposed on US and third-country companies for over 2.4 billion dollars.
Bruno Rodriguez described such actions as ‘acts of persecution and intimidation of an extraterritorial nature.’
According to a report on damages presented last October, the 2019-2020 period was marked by a Cuba-US relation setback and the tightening of the blockade, generating a $5.5 billion loss in just one year.
The document gives examples of extraterritorial sanctions and quotes the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), when it penalized on April, 2019, the banking-financial entity Standard Chartered Bank, based in the United Kingdom, forced to pay over 639 million dollars.
In 2019, OFAC also sanctioned other companies such as UniCredit Bank AG (Germany), UniCredit Bank Austria (Austria) and UniCredit Bank SpA (Italy), for 1.3 billion dollars, for making ‘penalized’ transfers by United States.
Plus, OFAC announced the implementation of enforcement actions on Allianz Global Risks US Insurance Company, based in the US, and Chubb Limited, in Switzerland, for 170,535 and 66,212 dollars, respectively.
