Havana, Oct 18 (Prensa Latina) The blockade of the United States today constitutes the main impediment to the flow of information and to the wider access of Cubans to the Internet, according to the authorities of the Caribbean country.

The document that Cuba will present shortly before the UN General Assembly exemplifies that the restrictions of the blockade prevented the realization of International Postal Money.

It concludes that economic damages in communications amounted to more than 55 million dollars from April 2018 to March 2019.

The report also maintains that the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A. it records the majority of the affectations among which the suspension of its membership to the Global System for Mobile Communications stands out.

The Cuban authorities denounce that the blockade, formally declared in 1962, is the main obstacle to the development of the Caribbean country and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.

They also reiterate that the resurgence of the blockade continues as the central axis of Washington’s policy towards the island, with increasingly notable effects on its extraterritorial application.

The damages due to the application of the blockade in almost six decades amount to 922 thousand 630 million dollars, taking into account the depreciation of the dollar against gold.
