Montevideo, Mar 10 (Prensa Latina) The National Political Committee of the ruling Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA) of Uruguay has demanded the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade the United States has imposed on Cuba.
The eight member parties of the ruling leftist coalition unanimously agreed to condemn a policy that officially dates from February 3, 1962, when then US President John Kennedy ordered this unilateral measure.
The FA member parties recalled that this blockade is contrary to the principles of sovereign equality of the States, non-intervention and non-interference in internal affairs enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the Acts of Freedom of Trade and Navigation established in several international legal instruments.
The FA noted that since 1992, at all its annual sessions and by an overwhelming majority, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade the United States has imposed on Cuba.
“On 29 previous occasions, Uruguay voted in favor of this Resolution and without prejudice to this, and facing the consideration of a new pronouncement to be held on April 6, the FA reiterates its condemnation of the illegal and criminal blockade against Cuba.”
The FA National Political Committee is made up of Democracia Avanzada, Movimiento de Participación Popular, Fuerza Renovadora, Vertiente Artiguista, Partido Socialista, El Abrazo, Liga Federal y Nuevo Espacio.
