Uruguayans campaign for Nobel Peace Prize for Cuban medical brigade

Montevideo, Dec 22 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan Committee, which supports granting the Nobel Peace Prize to the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade from Cuba, launched a campaign on Tuesday to collect signatures to back that nomination.

Representatives of the national promoting group reported it at a press conference held here, where they also presented the logo, designed by Cuban cartoonist Adan Iglesia Toledo, which will identify the mass mobilization to be promoted in the future.

The Committee is made up of several organizations, including the Network in Defense of Humanity (REDH), the Uruguay Chapter, the Pit-Cnt Union, the Federation of University Students and the Association of Former Political Parties, among other groups.

Legislators from the Broad Front (Frente Amplio), academics and prominent figures joined the initiative as well.

The Uruguay Chapter of the REDH presented to the Nobel Peace Committee the candidacy of the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade, supported by 52 signatures from Uruguay.

The request highlights ‘the humanitarian work conducted by the Cuban medical brigade, with effort, sacrifice and high level of professionalism, at the expense of risking their lives for the good of the humankind.’
