Paris, 4 Jan (PL) UNESCO, on the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, sent congratulations to Cuba’s permanent delegation to the body, diplomatic sources reported Friday.
The letter expresses the organization’s hope to continue strengthening the existing close ties between the sides.
It also adds its gratitude to the Caribbean country for its ‘active role in the promotion of peace and development in all UNESCO programs’.
Cuba and UNESCO are still strengthening their fruitful bilateral ties, which celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2017, Havana’s embassy said in a statement. Cuba had an active presence at the organization’s headquarters in 2018, expressed at the highest level with the November visit of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, who had a friendly and cordial meeting with Director General Audrey Azoulay.
The two identified common priorities and reaffirmed the commitment to continue working together.
Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez also met with the director general in May, when the Caribbean nation agreed with the organization’s mandate.
This year begins with renewed commitments and political will to continue deepening its relationship with UNESCO, in which the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Havana will occupy a privileged place, Cuban embassy added.
