Havana, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Two million tourists arrived in Cuba so far this year, a figure reached 12 days earlier than in 2018, Minister Manuel Marrero announced Monday.
The Cuban Minister emphasized in Twitter that the figure coincides with the start of activities for the 39th International Tourism Fair FITCuba 2019, to be held from May 7 to 11.
‘We will have a Foreign Administration Workshop, in the afternoon Cuba-España Business Forum, tonight the gala in the Alicia Alonso Theater and Tuesday we will open FITCuba 2019 in (the) Conventions Center’, he stressed.
Marrero days ago announced that during the first quarter of 2019 the arrival of travelers to Cuba has increased by 7.2 percent, which is slightly higher than expected to reach five million visitors by the end of 2019.
This year began with some difficulties in Europe, a reality not only in Cuba, because there is a decrease in the number of trips of Europeans to the Caribbean for various reasons, he explained.
Despite this, trips from Canada, the main Cuban market, were recovered and other destinations such as Russia are growing, he added.
The Minister recalled this is the only country in the world where US citizens can not do tourism freely, only through rigoruous systema of 12 licenses authorized by the US administration.
Cuban authorities emphasize that these figures have been achieved despite the strengthening of the economic, financial and commercial blockade by the US Government.
