Thousands of signatures support British petition vs. blockade to Cuba

London, Apr 1 (Prensa Latina) An online request by friends of Cuba in the United Kingdom to thank the Caribbean island for its internationalism to fight the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, and demand lifting the US blockade, has reached thousands of signatures on Wednesday.

The response has been overwhelming, and clearly supports the Cuban internationalist medical brigades, and opposes to the US blockade, the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) said in a statement sent to Prensa Latina.

In just three days, the open letter posted on the organization’s website, https://cuba-solidarity.org.uk/end-the-blockade/, has recorded this Wednesday more than 6,800 signatures of people from some 80 countries.

Many of those signatories, among them at least 15 British MPs, also wrote their comments at the foot of the appeal made by the CSC.

Labor Party MP Grahame Morris states, for example, that the time has come so that the international community can repay Cuba’s gesture of helping the rest of the world to fight the pandemic, and the unilateral US blockade is lifted, at least temporarily.

Many of passengers aboard British cruise ship MS Braemar, whom the Cuban government helped to repatriate after other countries in the area, among them the United States, refused to let it dock because it had several coronavirus cases on board, also thanked Havana’s solidarity gesture.

According to the friends of the Caribbean nation in the United Kingdom, the time has come so that the British government can also show its gratitude, and ask the United States to lift these measures at once, or at least suspend them for a time, so Cuba can buy essential products for its population.
