Havana, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) The President of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), Esteban Lazo, said today that Cuba will continue to advance and consolidate its political process, despite the aggressiveness of the United States.
At the opening of the fourth extraordinary period of the 9th Legislature of the ANPP, Lazo assured that Cubans will continue to their efforts in a Revolution based on unity, which with its principles safeguards the wellbeing of its people.
He pointed out that the United States’ hostility towards the island shows other peoples the value of the economic, political and social system of the Caribbean nation.
He announced that assembly member Zunilda Garcia, elected by the special municipality of the Isle of Youth, had taken office before the parliament leadership.
He outlined the agenda for the day, which will see the election of the president, vice president and secretary of the ANPP and other members of the Council of State.
In addition, assembly members will elect the president and vice president of the Republic, he said.
Lazo described this step as important for the fulfillment of the new Constitution and the progress of the country’s institutionality.
Once elected, the President of the Republic will have three months to propose a Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, as well as Provincial Governors, all of which are new posts created according to the Constitution approved in April.
