HAVANA, CUBA (KNOE 8 News) – Many are still calling for the U.S. trade embargo with Cuba to be lifted. Just recently, the Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture returned from a trade mission trip to Cuba.
Mike Strain and several lawmakers, port officials and farmers from around the state made the trip. The group is hoping to sell Cubans our agricultural products like rice, soybeans, corn and cattle, but this can’t happen until congress lifts the U.S. embargo.
Commissioner Strain is hoping Louisiana is in the driver’s seat if and when that happens.
“The reason we’re coming here, we came here we have to be in the game we have to understand the game. everyone here has been very open,” Strain said.
Our own Tammi Arender was on the trip to Cuba. She’ll have more on what the Louisiana delegation learned about the island nation and the possibility of trading with them, Monday, August 22nd on KNOE 8 News at Six.
