Stockholm, May 10 (Prensa Latina) Sweden and Cuba on Monday expressed interest in strengthening bilateral ties at a virtual meeting between Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde and Cuban Ambassador Alba Soto.
During the meeting, Linde lauded the good state of bilateral relations and noted the usefulness of the Political Consultations Mechanism, whose upcoming session is scheduled for next autumn.
She also highlighted Sweden’s cooperation policy and its development regarding Cuba, in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding that governs those consultations, in force since 2015.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Soto ratified Cuba’s interest in continuing to strengthen bilateral relations on the basis of their potentialities, including the breakthroughs in biotechnology, including her country’s vaccine candidates against Covid-19.
She also took the opportunity to condemn the tightening of the United States blockade against Cuba and the inhumane conditions of its implementation during the Covid-19 pandemic.
After referring to the upcoming submission of Cuba’s draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly to eliminate that policy, which has been imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years, the ambassador thanked Sweden for its traditional support against US hostility.
