Havana, May 4 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and foreign students from 17 countries will boost the links between psychology and the community next week, organizers of an international forum on psychology said today.
The 10th International Meeting of Psychology Students will be held in Havana from May 7th to 11th and will include a community fair, Luis Daniel Aleman, a third-year student at the Faculty of Psychology of the Universidad de Havana, told the Prensa Latina news agency.
‘The meetings have been held every two years since 2000, but the fair will be held for the first time,’ he said.
The fair, set for May 10th, will tackle issues of interest to various age groups, from children to adults, as the settlement of conflicts between parents and children and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
‘We will bring psychology to the community in a fair that will also include meditation workshops, videogames, book sales and information on university careers, closing the day with a concert by La Colmenita (Cuban children’s theater company),’ said Rosabel Escandon, another of the organizers.
‘We thought of something different for this 10th meeting,’said Escandon, fifth-year student of psychology.
Sports activities will be also another peculiar feature of this 10th meeting, which will gather more than 500 delegates including 400 foreigners,’ said Isabela Gomez, an Ecuadorian studying the second year of psychology in Cuba.
According to Gomez, delegates are encouraged to participate on May 8th in sports activities, especially traditional games from those countries represented in the event, most of them from Latin America.
Gomez, also member of the organizing committee, highlighted that the program of the event includes lectures by outstanding professionals, as Manuel Calviño.
The event is part of the activities for the 290th anniversary of the University of Havana.
