Havana, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) The solidarity of Cubans abroad today reinforces the fight against Covid-19 in Cuba with the arrival of supplies thanks to the joint effort of groups of residents in Canada.
A recent shipment, arranged by the Juan Gualberto Gomez Association of Cubans in Toronto, confirms the commitment of this community in the scenario of the pandemic and the US blockade, its president, Julio Fonseca, told Prensa Latina. On September 3, with a small donation to the association, the project Container Yes for Cuba began with the purpose of sending medical supplies to strengthen the health sector in coordination with the MEDICuba company, he detailed via Whatsapp.
‘Although the initial plan was to fill a 20-foot container, the reality is that with the aid of friendship organizations from various regions of Canada and many friends, we managed to send a 40-foot container, and we have provisions to start a second shipment,’ he added.
According to Fonseca, the cargo includes ventilators for artificial respiration, anesthesia machines, hospital beds, wheelchairs, orthopedic, gynecology, urology, pediatrics, among others.
Meanwhile, Daysi Camejo, also a member of the Association, recalled the long-standing solidarity between Cuba and Canada and the close ties of the Cuban community settled in the northern nation.
‘The arrival of the shipment is the result of the work of a very large team, an effort of many people, delayed for reasons beyond our control,’ she explained.
