Serbia and Cuba strengthen relations

Belgrade, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba at the National Assembly of Serbia, Ljubi?a Stojmirovic, received on Sunday the Cuban ambassador Gustavo Trista del Todo to discuss issues of bilateral interest.

During the conversation the also parliamentarian of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) informed the diplomat about the current internal situation leading up to the legislative elections convened for April.

The legislator referred to the most recent laws approved in favor of the elections and stressed the importance of the decision to reduce the electoral threshold by up to three percent, as well as the increase to 40 percent of female representation in the candidates for all levels.

Meanwhile, Trista del Todo reported Stojmirovic on the new US government’s aggressive measures against Cuba, aimed at strengthening the economic, commercial and financial blockade, and he ratified his people’s decision to resist and move forward.

In this context, he repudiated the full application of the Helms-Burton Act, the suspension of flights to Cuba, the prohibition of cruise travel and attempts to interrupt the oil supply.

Both officials confirmed the good state of bilateral and interparliamentary relations and agreed to an upcoming meeting with the Friendship Group on a date to be defined.

In the legislative elections on April 26, the SNS headed by President Aleksandar Vucic starts as a favorite, according to opinion polls.
