Saving lives, a premise of Cuban medical contingent in Mexico

Mexico, Feb 28 (Prensa Latina) Saving lives is the main objective of Cuba’s Henry Reeve Medical Contingent, and achieving it requires constant professional improvement, Dr. Jesus Fernando Valdes Herrera told Prensa Latina.

Valdes, who is an expert in comprehensive general medicine, is a member of the brigade in Mexico, a country where a second group of 500 Cuban doctors arrived at a time of a serious rise in Covid-19 cases.

In the program that the contingent implements in the countries where it provides its services, such as Mexico, there are scientific conferences that have the multiple purpose of updating knowledge with the latest trends in medicine, and assessing the work developed by the brigades in the different specialties.

Already close to conclude his participation in this intense fight against Covid-19 in Mexico, the 2nd Scientific Conference of the Contingent was held, although not massively, but in each area of action of the groups, mainly in Mexico City.

As Dr. Valdes Herrera explained, this time some 20 high-level scientific papers were presented, after a keynote speech on acute complications in patients with diabetic hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) and diabetic hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), a chronic disease in Mexico.
