Sagua La Grande is Very Important in Cuba Tourism Catalogue

Cayo Santa María, Cuba, May 5 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban picturesque town of Sagua La Grande took part officially of the island tourism catalogue, full of historical places, nautical and new hotels, an event which was celebrated Saturday by foreign experts.

The places Palacio de Arena (Sand Palace) and Sagua Hotel were opened as a part of the 38 International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2018), which Saturday closes with the participation of more than 3,000 persons of 52 countries.

More than 100 journalists (May 2 to 5) travel the north keys of the central province of Villa Clara and investigate details about the trip industry of this country.

In the official presentation of Sagua La Grande, the president of the Municipal Assembly of the Popular Power of this territory, Aurora Gonzalez, welcomed the participants while the Minister of Tourism, Manuel Marrero, certified the action.

Marrero reminded Sagua La Grande was a prosperous town of the country with a great success during the 20s of the last century.

Home of celebrities like the doctor Joaquin Albarran, father of the Cuban urology, the town highlighted at that time on the sugar industry.

Sagua had its first street routing in 1849 and in 1905 opened a beautiful bridge which is still there .In 1825 had its first hotel and in 1866 received the Village title.

The Tourism Minister also remarked that Sagua is the closest point between Cuba and US and had important links with that country from trade perspective.

This picturesque town had more than 24 hotels and in 1920 a villaje in Cayo Esquivel (Esquivel Key), near the place, islet is being retaken for recreation and vacations.

The newly opened Sagua hotel was the most luxurious of the place and in room 320, the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca stayed.

Marrero also mentioned the first Cuban steamer, telegraph network, Congo Town Hall and Chinese casino occurred in this territory.

Sagua La Grande located at the central northern region of the country is playing and important part in tourism, mainly with Europeans.
