Russia, Cuba Seek to Strengthen Cooperation in Agriculture

Moscow, Jun 4 ( Prensa Latina ) Russia and Cuba have expressed this Tuesday in favor of strengthening cooperation and trade in the agricultural sphere, with greater participation of this nation in the supply of equipment to Cuba.

The Russian Minister of Agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev, said that the exchange in the agricultural sector is below the real potential of both nations and considered it necessary to diversify the activity in this line of bilateral cooperation.

Patrushev expressed his satisfaction at the successful approval of the certificate of five Russian meat-producing companies for their work with Cuba and considered that this opens the way for the participation of other Russian companies in this activity.

He recalled that since 2016, Russia has participated in the recovery of Cuban citrus productio and said that one of its stages is the supply of agricultural equipment, including irrigation.

In addition, he highlighted the existence of a Roadmap, agreed during the session of the mixed intergovernmental commission last October in Havana, for cooperation between the Cuban Ministry of Agriculture and the Raduga Institute, attached to the Russian portfolio of that branch.

On his side, Cabrisas was satisfied with the open potential for the development of cooperation in the agricultural sphere between the two countries.

The Cuban Vice Minister’s agenda includes a meeting this day at the headquarters of the Russian government with Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, who in representation of his country, co-chairs the joint intergovernmental commission on economic-commercial and scientific-technical cooperation.
