Rebuilt Important Road Hit by Matthew in Eastern Cuba

Baracoa, Cuba Dec 19 (Prensa Latina) The land communication between the eastern provinces of Guantanamo and Holguín was re-established today after the reconstruction of the bridge over Toa River, devastated by Matthew’s fury two months ago.

The new road makes possible the important access, which was interrupted since last October 5 when the flood of the river destroyed the old bridge, considered one of the wonders of Cuban civil engineering.

The work consisting of a bridge crossing over the Toa was restored thanks to the efforts of joint construction forces in the eastern provinces, which worked intensively during these two months defying two other floods of the river that partially destroyed what had been built.

All this temporarily delayed the delivery of the vial, which was lifted a few hundred meters downstream of the old bridge, with tubes of concrete and high-strength reinforced concrete.

According to press reports the bridge will facilitate the transit of resources for the new high bridge that is planned to be built over the Toa by specialists from Cuba and Venezuela.
