Ottawa, Feb 25 (Prensa Latina) The Canadian Union of Postal Workers has joined the Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) in a campaign to raise funds for medical supplies for the country, according to organizers.
The event was launched on January 8 and it aims to raise 50,000 dollars to fill and ship a container with medicines and other items for Cuba’s public health services in late March.
Keith Ellis, Coordinator for the CNC’s Medical Supplies Fundraising Campaign, expressed that ‘right now, precisely, Cuban hospitals are struggling to acquire some very urgently needed items, mainly due to the US economic blockade.’
According to Ellis, the CNC has a list of some of these items ‘which we are attempting to get from medical equipment suppliers in the Toronto area.’
Organizers’ note indicates that the Cuban doctors are known for their important medical accomplishments and international humanitarian aid around the world, in particular, the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade.
The CNC highlights that this group, founded on September 19, 2005 in Havana, Cuba, by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, carries out disaster relief work in many countries, which is why it has been nominated for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize by several political, cultural, religious and social institutions.
