Managua, Apr 16 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua’s Association of Friends of Socialism and Peace on Friday highlighted in a statement the commemoration of the Day of Friendship between Cuba and Nicaragua.
Both nations and peoples have been twinned since 1893 when the Cuban hero Jose Marti and the Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario, deemed here Hero of Cultural Independence, met for the only time in New York, noted the press release of the organization that makes up the Nicaraguan Anti-imperialist Network of Solidarity with the Peoples ‘Augusto. C. Sandino.’
The Day of Friendship will be celebrated on Friday with a political act and an artistic evening, but the anniversary that serves as historic support is the fall in combat, on April 17, 1961, of the Nicaraguan internationalist pilot Carlos Ulloa, while rejecting the US mercenary invasion of Cuba through the Bay of Pigs.
The Nicaraguan Association of Friends of Socialism and Peace took the opportunity to salute the beginning of the 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, which it describes as glorious.
True, solid, transparent friendship has deep roots, many times invisible, thus it sometimes must be shown, says an excerpt of the statement.
In the case of Cuba and Nicaragua, the document refers that this reciprocal feeling ‘is based on fraternity, the heroism of their peoples, mutual interest, cooperation and humanism, fundamental principles that have a promising future.’
