Havana, Dec 28 (Prensa Latina) The new Cuban Constitution will lead our destinies as it looks to the future, Cecilia Valdes Milian, a member of the National Electoral Commission sworn in for the popular referendum on February 24 said on Friday.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Valdes Milian explained that the document approved last week at the People’s Power National Assembly expands civil, political and citizen rights in a general sense, for which it stands out as a text for the future.
Speaking about the referendum called for next February 24, she said that it has as a background the popular consultation held from August 13 to November 15 across the country.
The constitutional reform will have its culmination on February 24, when Cubans will go to the polls to vote for the new constitution in an act to ratify it and support its subsequent implementation, said Valdes Milian.
According to the commission member, one of the main motivations of the electoral authorities is to know that they will participate in a process that expresses sovereignty and wishes to continue building a prosperous and sustainable socialism.
For this we will have the support of jurists as supervisors as we are many ensuring that it will be a transparent and legitimate process, in which the results correspond to the popular will.
For her part, the commission member Caridad Álvarez announced that the National Electoral Commission headed by Alina Balseiro will work hard for Cuba and the Revolution.
More than eight million Cubans are summoned to the polls to vote to set a stance for the Magna Carta approved on December 22 unanimously in Parliament.
