Havana, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The Municipal Assemblies of the People”s Power of Cuba are holding today their extraordinary sessions to nominate the candidates for delegates to the Provincial Assemblies, as well as the deputies to the Parliament.
Arranged by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, this action is part of the general election process carried out by the Caribbean nation.
On the subject, the head of the National Candidacy Commission, Gisela Duarte, explained that this Sunday the candidatures presidents present their candidates in their respective territories to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power.
Those selected will be part of the Provincial Assemblies of People’s Power and the National Assembly (Parliament), specified Duarte.
The official indicated that at first the candidacy is approved, and in a second step each candidate is submitted to vote by the president of the Municipal Assembly.
To be approved and then elected by the people they must have more than 50 percent of the favorable votes of the delegates gathered there, Duarte said.
The leading board recalled that from January 5 to 14, the candidacy commissions of the municipalities carried out a process of individual consultation with those delegates of the Municipal Assemblies, based on the biographical synthesis and exchanges made.
According to the Information System of Cuban Television, between January 22 and March 10, it is expected that those nominated will carry out a program of tours through the municipalities to exchange with the population, prior to the March 11 elections by the Council of State.
