Mexico, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez on Monday offered to support Cuba with whatever it needs such as medicines, vaccines, food.
He called for the lifting of the US blockade and condemned interference in this small island.
In his morning press conference in Tabasco, Lopez Obrador reiterated his solidarity with the Cuban people, ‘a free, independent and sovereign country, in which there should be no interventionism, nor should the health situation of the Cuban people be used for political purposes.’
There are many countries with problems in Latin America and the Caribbean; it is not only the case of Cuba. However, the unusual news promoted by those who do not agree with the policies of the government of that country is striking, he pointed out.
The issue should not be politicized, and humanitarian support should not be used as a banner to attack and interfere in matters that should only be resolved by Cubans, he said and recalled that Mexico has always supported Cuba and all the peoples of the world.
‘If the Cuban government considers it necessary and its people demand it, the Mexican government could help with medicines, vaccines, with whatever is required and with food, because health and food are fundamental human rights, without the political and interventionist handling of this issue,’ he said.
The truth, he insisted, is that if one wanted to help Cuba, the first thing that should be done is to lift the (US) blockade as most of the countries of the world are requesting. That would be a truly humanitarian gesture; no country in the world should be sieged, blockaded, that is a human rights violation, he pointed out.
