Japan to Produce, Trade Cuban Medicine

Havana, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban natural medicine Policonasol (PPG) to treat ischemic cerebrovascular diseases will be produced in Japan, where it will be available online from September, it was reported Friday.

‘Policosanol, of Cuban origin, known as PPG, was registered in #Japan on July 19. It will be produced in the Asian country with raw material from #Cuba’, it was announced on the official Twitter of the Cuban embassy in Japan.

The drug, made from sugarcane wax, lowers bad cholesterol and has an antiplatelet and antioxidant effect, making it an excellent option for the treatment of vascular diseases.

In addition, it is a supplement that improves quality of life in the elderly, a stage of life in which chronic non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes increase. With more than 25 years of registration and introduction in the Cuban market and in more than 30 nations around the world, the drug obtained in 1996 the Gold Medal awarded by the World Intellectual Property Organization.

According to many experts, PPG, developed by the National Center for Scientific Research, does not interfere with other medications, nor does it have adverse reactions, so it is a choice for elderly who can take it not only as a treatment, but also in disease prevention.

For Cuba and Japan, with high life expectancy, the production and marketing of the natural products is of great interest to improve the quality of life of this sector of the population.
